Dario De Domenico

Structural civil engineer, Tenure-track Assistant Professor (RTD-b) at the Department of Engineering, University of Messina, within the scientific-disciplinary sector CEAR-07/A – Structural Engineering. Lecturer of Structural Design, Design of Earthquake Resistant Structures, and Progetto di Strutture in Zona Sismica for Civil Engineering programs.
His research focuses on structural engineering, with over 100 scientific articles published in international journals. Main topics include: seismic response mitigation using isolators and dampers; innovative structural control systems; diagnostics, monitoring, and safety assessment of existing bridges; ultimate behavior of reinforced concrete structures; strengthening of existing structures with FRP/FRCM systems.
He has designed and conducted experimental tests on seismic isolators and hysteretic/viscous dampers at the EUROLAB in Messina, and on RC elements strengthened with composites at the Structures Laboratory of the Department of Engineering.
He serves as Scientific Coordinator of the Materials Testing Laboratory of the Department of Engineering at the University of Messina and leads several structural engineering research agreements within the same department.
His PhD thesis received special mention from the ACI Italy Chapter - PhD Student Award 2014 as one of the best research works on RC structures produced between 2012–2014.
Since 2020, he has been listed among the Top 2% most influential scientists worldwide in Civil Engineering, according to annual rankings by Stanford University based on Elsevier/Scopus databases.
He is co-author of two scientific patents in earthquake engineering.
He serves as Associate Editor for six international journals and sits on the Editorial Board of ten international scientific journals in structural engineering. He has been an invited speaker at several international conferences, where he also organized and chaired special sessions and thematic mini-symposia.
He has taught in doctoral schools in Italy and delivered short courses abroad for students, PhD candidates, and post-docs in structural engineering.
He was Visiting Researcher at the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, University of Sheffield (UK), and at the Laboratory of Mechanics and Materials, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece).
He obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Full Professor in the academic recruitment field 08/B3 – Structural Engineering.
