
Davide Geneletti (PhD, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) is Professor of Spatial Planning at the University of Trento, Italy, where he leads the Planning for Ecosystem Services and Urban Sustainability Lab. His research focuses on the impact assessment of projects, plans, and policies, and on integrating ecosystem services into spatial and urban planning. He also works on nature-based solutions, multicriteria analysis, and spatial decision support systems.
He has been a Research Fellow at Harvard University’s Sustainability Science Program and a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University’s Woods Institute for the Environment. He has provided consultancy for international public and private bodies, including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), UN-HABITAT, the European Commission, and the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, with work experience in Latin America, Southeast Asia, Southern Africa, and the Balkans.
He served as Editor of the Journal of Environmental Assessment Policy and Management (2016–2019) and is currently Deputy Editor and co-founder of One Ecosystem. He has been Principal Investigator or Work Package leader in over 20 international research projects, and is currently Coordinating Lead Author for the “Spatial planning and connectivity assessment” of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
He has received the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in recognition of his research achievements, and is included in the Stanford–Elsevier database of Highly Cited Researchers (top 2% worldwide).
