Prof. Dr. Gianvito Vilé is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, where he leads a research group developing catalytic materials, continuous-flow technologies, and automated processes for sustainable chemical manufacturing.
He earned his Ph.D. from ETH Zurich, receiving the ETH Medal and the Dimitris N. Chorafas Award for his doctoral thesis. His scientific achievements have been recognized with several prestigious distinctions, including the Alfredo di Braccio Award (Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei), the Robert Karl Grasselli Prize in Catalysis (Italian Chemical Society), the Felder Award (Fondazione Bracco), and the 2025 EFCATS Young Researcher Award (European Federation of Catalysis Societies), one of Europe's highest honors in catalysis.
His research is supported by the European Research Council through an ERC Starting Grant (2022) and two ERC Proof of Concept Grants (2024, 2026). Over the past five years, his group has secured more than €6 million in competitive funding by the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of University and Research, pharmaceutical companies including Bayer, Versalis, Procos, and Bracco Imaging, and private foundations such as Fondazione Cariplo.
Prof. Vilé serves as expert evaluator and panel member for several national and international funding agencies. He is a Fellow of the Young Academy of Europe. He is Associate Editor for Reaction Chemistry & Engineering, the flagship journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry dedicated to chemical reaction engineering discoveries. In addition, he is a member of the European Commission panels on Green Pharmaceuticals and of the MSCA Green Charter.
