Luca Biferale

Luca Biferale is a Full Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" and an Associate Professor at the INFN. His scientific work focuses on the physics of turbulence, complex systems, and fluids, with a particular focus on theoretical and numerical modeling, Lagrangian turbulence, lattice-Boltzmann methods, microfluidics, and, more recently, the use of machine learning tools and generative models for the reconstruction and analysis of turbulent flows.

Over the course of his career, he has contributed significantly to the development of advanced methods for studying intermittency and the dynamics of particles and scalars in complex flows, combining phenomenological approaches, high-performance numerical simulations, and statistical analysis. He is the author of numerous international scientific publications and has held editorial and coordination roles in European research projects and networks in the fields of fluid dynamics and statistical physics.

He has received two ERC Advanced Grants: NewTURB and Smart-TURB, dedicated to the development of new concepts, methodologies, and data-driven tools for boundary problems in turbulence. He is a member of the Academia Europaea and has been elected a Fellow of the European Mechanics Society (EUROMECH) and the American Physical Society (APS).
